This work is an interactive VR installation that explores the boundary between observer and object by extending perception.
Using the Quest 2 VR headset, a 360-degree camera, and a helium balloon, the camera is raised to capture a panoramic view from the sky and streamed in real time to the VR headset. This allows viewers to experience a perspective from the air intertwined with digitally created 3D objects.

This project is a continuation of the project 'fussen' from 2023. The starting point was the study of “the effects of expanding the human senses on human beings”.
In this project, with VR equipment and a 360-degree camera, I realized a real experience that I hadn't done last year.

In the virtual environment, with the aid of the 360-degree camera, viewers can see both real and virtual content. Three continuously rotating Buddha statues are placed at the dome's apex, with a colossal, rotating eye in their midst, observing the world below. Surrounding and beneath these statues are three goldfish, swimming in perpetual motion. This arrangement symbolizes the intricate relationship between observer and observed, highlighting the fluidity and interchangeability of these roles.

Fishbowl is inspired by the idea of providing viewers with a space for perceptual expansion (in this case, the expansion of the senses, such as vision), prompting them to reconsider their view of everyday life. The elevated perspective gives a sense of power and raises questions about our place in the wider space of existence. The juxtaposition of the serene Buddha statue and watchful gaze with the vibrant, ever-swimming goldfish invites contemplation on themes of surveillance, self-awareness, and the nature of our interaction with the world.

By blending real-time aerial footage with virtual elements, “FishBowl” embodies the theme of “neither utopia nor utopia,” avoiding simple dichotomies and instead presenting a multifaceted reality. The project emphasizes the complexity and subtlety of our world, urging viewers to engage deeply with the subtle dynamics of observation and existence. Through this immersive experience, “FishBowl” seeks to recalibrate our understanding of the interplay between society, the environment, and technology, reflecting deeply on the act of observing and being observed.
