This Work is made for WOW inc Student Program.This program’s title is “The Time”.And I made this project.

Have you ever had this kind of experience?

For example, when you stare at the clock for a few minutes just before

the end of a class at school and wish the time would hurry up,That minute seems very long, doesn't it?

This experience of time is what inspired me to start this project.In other words, “The more you care about time, the slower time seems to pass.”







  • Concept & Plan




I consider water and time to be equally ‘flowing’. Neither has a definite form and neither can be merged or separated.And I believe that time and water can be seen as ‘a second’ and ‘a drop’.

So I chose to use ‘water’ to represent time because I find this kind of metaphor interesting.
Integrating this metaphor with ideas about time, I began to create this installation.

Specifically,strobe light, the closer the frequency of the strobe light approaches the frequency of the polka dots,The visual speed of the polka dots slows down and eventually they seem to stop in mid-air. And I added a distance sensor to it.

When we first experimented with combining the device with the exterior, a surprising effect occurred.
Even though the upper water ball appears to be stationary, the lower waterwheel is constantly turning. This sense of displacement is like saying that time does not change regardless of our will.

I think this discovery is the most interesting thing in this work.

Since this is the first time for me to do such a real physics work, I had so many problems when I actually made it, but after a lot of searching and experimentation, I am glad that I “safely” completed it.Lmao.
